COME SORROW

Come Sorrow is the title of our program but also one of the most beautiful vocal piece composed by Robert Jones: a mysterious and almost unknown lutenist and English composer from the end of the XVIth century. In England, during the Elizabethan era, lute and viola da gamba were designated to accompany the voice. In 1601, Robert Jones (1577 - 1617) published another collection, which is an important testimony to the use of the viola da gamba in the vocal repertoire. This one is composed of Songs which can be interpreted by a voice and a lute, or by two voices, a lute and a lyra viol part. These unknown pieces are incredibly rich. They are faithful to the Elizabethan style and remind us of Songs composed by John Dowland, as the famous Flow my tears which will end our program.
